Baoding is situated to the South of Beijing and is known as the South Gate and Satellite City of Beijing with strategic importance. It is both a historic and cultural city of China approved by the State Council and a city opening to the outside world. There are 3 urban districts, 4 county-level cities and 18 counties under the Municipal Government covering an area of 22,000 km�0�5 and with a population of 10,300,000, but the population in Baoding city is about 600,000.

Baoding is located in the center of the golden triangle area formed by Beijing, Tianjin, and Shijiazhuang and it is respectively 140km, 145km, and 125km away from the three big cities. It holds an important position in the Bohai-rim economic area.

Beijing-Guangzhou Railroad and Beijing-Shenzhen Expressway pass the City from north to south. Tianjin-Baoding Expressway and Shenmu-Huanghua link up the three longest railways in China---Beijing to Kowloon, Beijing-Guangzhou and Tianjin-Shanghai lines. Beijing International Airport and Zhengding Airport as well as Tianjin and Huanghua Seaports greatly facilitate the transportation in the air and on the sea.
